August Tip: move containers to a cool place if you are going on holiday. If a neighbour is watering them for you, group them together, to make the task easier.

August Task: take cuttings from perennials such as salvias, fuchsias and penstemons, so you have a back up if they succumb to frost. Don’t cut back the remaining plant until spring, as the old growth will help keep off the frost.
