May Tip: add coarse grit to the bottom of the hole when planting Mediterranean and silver-leafed plants as they hate having their feet wet.

May Task: for a change, plant your hanging baskets with sedums and other succulents – they will need very little watering. Line the basket with moss and use 50 per cent John Innes No 2, mixed with 50 per cent perlite for a free-draining compost.
